Hi, we've been to Zakynthos a few times.

We have stayed in Tsilivi (liked it) Kalamaki (didn't like it), and Alykanas/Alykes (loved it).

We are in our mid thirties, and like a sandy beach, be able to go for walks, good restaurants and a couple of nice bars.  Is Vassilikos for us (1 week)?

Hi Annie,

Vassilikos is very spread out and in what, I think is the most picturesque part of the island so the walking is very good. There’s not a lot there with regard to shops, so if your going SC you may need a car. There are a couple of great tavena's.

It has the best beaches on the Island and the only beaches were bars serving alcohol on the beach are permitted.

I think this resort is suited to people who like to lounge on the beach then visit a tavenra for the evening and retire to bed and are happy in there own company.. There are only a couple of bars  and very spread out. Its a torch to get you home resort. However, its beautiful.

Thanks very much batman  Smiley  It does sound lovely!  We would ideally like to stay in a hotel, but apartment is fine, although we never eat in, always go out for meals.

Can you recommend some properties, ideally near a few restaurants?  We wouldn't mind walking to the beach, but we'd prefer not to be walking too far in the dark, after a night out  laugh

Hi Annie.  We have stayed in Vassilikos for the last 8 years!  The first twice we stayed in Louis group hotels (closed in 2007) and since then in a few different apartments.  Batman is right about it being quiet and remote and we always have a car.  We stay about 2km further down the peninsular from the “village” (near Mavratiz beach) and have about 5 restaurants within a 10 min walk or about 10 within a 5 minute drive (includes the “village”).  The beaches are some of the best on the island.  Some of my photos can be seen at - http://phil.whitcombe.org.uk.  If you want any more info just ask.  I also have a file of Google Earth pins which show the location of most of our favourite places (beaches and restaurants).

Have a look at a few of the older postings as there is loads of info in them.

Hi Annie - Like Phil my wife and I have gone to Vasilikos quite a few times. Obviously we liked it!!! We had been to Alykanas lots, but thought it had become too commercialised for us. In Vasilikos we always stayed in www.bluehouse.gr    views to die for!! Another place we liked was Villa Anna. Some very good restaurants in the village were a) Cumpas - near the apartments b) Kostas Brothers with live music c) The Garden d) To Fanaria - on the main street e) To Gallo - also on the main street. If you want any more info, please ask.

Thanks Gordon and Phil!

Which property would be closest to the village restaurants?  Is driving difficult in Vassilikos?  We've never hired a car before, but it might be a possibility this year (although I am a nervous passanger  Shocked ).

Hi - Driving on Zakynthos is not a problem. Villa Anna is right in the middle of Vsailikos village (aka Potiami), but Blue House is only 5 minutes walk from the main street. Another to look at is "The Garden" which has a very good restaurant/bar on site. One of the great things about Vasilikos is that it is not just British tourists. There are people there from Austria, Germany, Scandinavia, and Italy.

Hi Annie.

I have lived on Zakynthos for 4 years now, most of which in Vassilikos. It has the best beaches in The Ionian Sea and the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. You don't have to hire a car. (although the supermarkets are obviously more expensive than the main ones in town.) Everything you could need is within walking distance.

Visit www.relaxing-holidays.com to view our eco friendly holiday company with numerouse properties in Vassilikos and Gerakas. You can email any queries to me at helen@relaxing-holidays.com

I hope you come to Vassilikos and enjoy a wonderful holiday wherever you decide to stay.

There are always taxis at the airport when the planes land, I'm not too sure about the carhire offices. We always prebook our hire car & the last couple of years we've used Faros in Argassi & cannot praise them too highly. We book online with them & they deliver to the airport, they don't ask for a deposit up front, you just pay by credit card when they deliver. We've used many companies over the years & can honestly say FAROS were the best yet by a long way, we'll be booking again soon for this year
(oops don't know how I managed it but I've posted this in the wrong topic, should be under Questions about Vassilikos Roll Eyes Roll Eyes )

I have been to Zante on 5 occasions and always stay in Alykanas but we always hire a car and spend at least 3/4 days of our holiday in Vassilikos. The beaches are the best on the island, and the small beach bar on Banana beach is great. I can wait until June. Hope this helps.
