Greek Easter
« on: December 30, 2019, 12:15:32 pm »
Over the weekend I looked at flights across to Zante for the Greek Easter celebrations which “differ” from the U.K. date wise. We’ve wanted to go over to experience the Greek Easter celebrations for some years now after hearing so much about them. Greek Easter Sunday next year falls on the 19th of April and with Easyjet Gatwick the only direct flight from the U.K. so early in the year available I’ve finally gone ahead and booked. The flight price was Just £39 outbound and just £12 to return back to Gatwick flying out on the Saturday morning before Greek Easter Sunday returning the following Saturday afternoon. I did a quick online accommodation search to see who was open so early before the Season starts in May and there were a few places open at bargain prices too. Before booking anywhere I contacted our regular Summer time accommodation owners in Alykanas and they will get a room ready for us just need my health to be okay then and off we’ll go. !!

Incredible prices those Tony we'll have to look at doing that some time; not this year though as we're heading up to Skye at the end of April for two weeks, if we weren't we'd almost certainly have gone for it. Rude not to at those prices!

Marvelous prices there Tony. I experienced it a few years back when Orthodox Easter dropped into May right at the start of the season and really enjoyed it. Went up to the services up at the church in Katastari and our hosts put on a meal with a lamb on the spit. Really enjoyed it so hope all goes well for you.

The next time the "whole" of Easter drops into the season is in 2024 but Easter Sunday in 2021 is on the 2nd May

Have spent one year in Crete during Greek Easter and that year it was early May. Would definitely recommend arriving prior to the Good Friday to get the most from the experience which was moving and respectful on the Friday and the church service we attended was in a beautiful church in Rethymnon. On the Sunday our hotel had the lamb cooking on the spit and other Easter delicacies. Red painted eggs and many pastries. Would love to go again.
